Hey there! We wanted to share a couple of great reading programs for you to enjoy this summer.

With only a few hours left to vote, Confessions and Fulfillment of All Desire are neck and neck and third place is a virtual tie between The End of the Present World, Angels and Their Missions and Quo Vadis?. If you haven’t voted, go do it now! The top three books are the ones we will be providing study guides for and holding discussions for in our store and online.

Don’t forget to download summer reading coloring sheets for your kids as well! Our sheet this year is for the Year of the Priest.

A lot of votes have come in and we seem to have two breakaway leaders – The Confessions of St. Augustine and Fulfillment of All Desire. Third place, however, is wide open with The End of the Present World and Quo Vadis? tied and The Angels and their Missions just a nose behind.

If you haven’t voted yet, there’s still time! Cast your vote!

For the last two years we have endeavored to get Catholics interested in reading Catholic literature during the summer. This year’s books are wide range of genres that should appeal to everyone.

For the theologically inclined, we have The Angels and Their Missions, The Confessions, The End of the Present World and The Fulfillment of All Desire.

For those wanting some fiction we have Junia, The Ignatius Critical Edition of King Lear, A Postcard from the Volcano, The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, Quo Vadis? and Song at the Scaffold.

If you haven’t voted for the three “official” Catholic books of Summer, it’s time to vote!

Catholic Summer Reading Program

The Catholic Summer Reading program is in full swing! We have posted free discussion guides for the top books and hope that you will use these in reading groups in your parish or local store.

Don’t forget that you can download our free kid’s coloring sheet to record summer reading for your kids and send it to us for a prize.

Today we added our last guide for St. Francis.

The voters in the 2008 election have spoken and the winners are:

1) Jesus of Nazareth
2) St. Francis of Assisi
3) Diary of a Country Priest

We heard grumbling that we stacked the deck by putting the Pope’s book on top and did notice some questionable voting activity from IP addresses designated to some “vatican.va” domain (whatever that is) and that American Papist tried to surreptitiously sabotage the voting by tainting Brideshead Revisited with his posting of the horrible trailer to the new movie version. In the end, we believe that the voting was fair and no voters were turned away from the polls.

So now it’s time to download a study guide, download the resource kit and take it to your parish or local store and get a discussion group started!

We have just added a new study guide for Brideshead Revisited to the Catholic Summer Reading site. You may have heard that there is a movie adaptation coming out this year from Miramax. I implore you to read the book this summer instead.
