Large Print Daily Roman Missal Now Available

by Ian on May 22, 2012

"When will there be a large print Daily Roman Missal?"

For months, actually, for over a year, you have been asking us.

For a long time we unfortunately had to say "We don't know and the publisher doesn't have a print date."

Today that has changed. Midwest Theological Forum has announced that the large print Daily Roman Missal is now available. We will have a shipment arriving in about two weeks so it is time to order now before the first printing runs out (as all the other missals have done at least once).

Features:

  • All approved Eucharistic Prayers
  • Rich bonded leather wrapped over padded cover boards, in liturgical red;
  • Gold-stamped image of Christ Pantocrator on front and the Chi-Rho image on the back;
  • Liturgical calendar through 2024;
  • Sturdy Smyth-sewn binding to ensure the Missal lays open from cover to cover;
  • For ease in readablility, text is 12.25-point (22.5% larger) and the weight of the font has been increased;
  • Six placeholder ribbons in liturgical colors and gilded page edges;
  • Order of Mass in English and Latin (side-by-side text includes the Latin text of the Prefaces);
  • Relevant quotes from the Catechism of the Catholic Church before every Sunday, Solemnity, and Feast;
  • Includes a protective slip cover.

The one thing to keep in mind is that this missal IS larger and weighs 3lbs. 3ozs.

Sorry, but in the real world, 12.25 is NOT large-print. And the increase in type weight makes little difference for people who need size. Our large print items are 22 point, and other groups I know regularly use 24. The “giant print” Sunday Missal advertised nowhere indicates what the real size of the type is – but to advertise 12.25 as “large print” is, I am afraid, deceptive.
