New CPSIA Guidance Issued on Children's Products (It's not pretty)

So the CPSC has issued a nice 13-page guide for "Small Businesses, Resellers, Crafters and Charities". If you have had your head in the sand hoping that you aren't affected, read this and realize that you are. If you are a manufacturer that thinks because you don't have to provide certificates until February 10, 2010, realize that your resellers are going to have to start refusing to carry your products if it isn't something obviously safe. With fines upwards of $100,000 and prison time possible, don't expect them to take you at your word. The government probably won't when they fail testing.

Oh, if you happen to own books printed before 1985  - Congratulations! You now own a toxic substance that it is illegal to give to libraries, charities or any other organization.

The one piece of good news - packaging that isn't meant to be used by the kids is exempt from testing.
