“Keep the focus of Christmas on Christ, and help those on your Christmas list to do the same by giving Catholic gifts”
“Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we have seen his star in the East, and have come to worship him.” . . . When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy; and going into the house they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh.”
The tradition of gift-giving at Christmastime has become a fixture in the celebration of Christmas, both by the Faithful and secular. In different countries and cultures, gift-giving occurs at different times within the Advent and Christmas seasons. Though the earliest Christians did not celebrate Christmas in the same way as the modern world, winter gift-giving practices were already in place by the time of Christ’s birth. As with some other holiday traditions, as pagans converted to Christianity in great numbers, activities once associated with pagan celebrations were adapted to the Christian celebration of Christmas. It is acceptable to carry on the tradition and reasonable to give gifts at Christmas, both as an act of mimicking the wise men’s giving of gifts and as a reminder of the ultimate Christmas gift, the birth of Christ himself.

Let Us Pray
In that hour vouchsafe, O my God! to hear my prayer and grant my desires, through the merits of Our Saviour Jesus Christ, and of His blessed Mother.
Amen.
(It is piously believed that whoever recites the above prayer fifteen times a day from the feast of St. Andrew, on November 30th, until Christmas will obtain what is asked.)
