"When you get to Heaven, do you want your claim to Heaven to be that you gave up chocolate for Lent? Eternity's a long time and hopefully you want to have a better story to tell than that." - Curtis Martin at the Catholics United for the Faith retreat in Colorado Springs today.

Hear, hear! My priest (on campus) mentioned something along those same lines in his homily yesterday: “If you’ve got great skin at Easter time, but you’re no closer to Jesus, then you should have just eaten the chocolate.”
Although I am not Catholic our church did something similar- fasting from something in our lives. I am fasting from secular music. This fast is much harder than any actual no food fasts I have ever engaged in.
